The Berkshire Natural Resources Council is marking its 50th anniversary with a community celebration September 9.

Since its founding in 1967, the environmental organization has acquired more than 10,000 acres and protected thousands more for hiking and enjoying nature across Berkshire County. Outgoing President Tad Ames says the county is much different than when BNRC began.

“And in many ways it’s a healthier place with a better balance between people and nature, but people are the key ingredient,” Ames said. “People who care about nature and understand how important it is and how enjoyable it can be.”

With archery lessons, a fishing derby and a bird of prey demonstration, the community celebration runs from 10 to 4 at Holiday Farm in Dalton.
