A Democrat running for a western Massachusetts state senate seat has picked up the support of North Adams’ mayor.North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright tells WAMC News he is endorsing Adam Hinds in the race for the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden senate seat.

“A very qualified guy,” Alcombright explained. “A very smart guy. He’s been working here in North County for quite some time and really understands the dynamics and needs of Northern Berkshire and I think Berkshire County in general. I don’t think there’s a whole lot of difference between here and Pittsfield and Great Barrington when you really dig into it.”

Hinds is the executive director of the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition. He is facing fellow Democrats and attorneys Andrea Harrington and Rinaldo Del Gallo. Christine Canning, who has spent most of her career in education,  is running as a Republican. Democrat Ben Downing is retiring after a decade in the senate.
