A North Adams doctor who allegedly prescribed fentanyl to a drug addict who died of an overdose has had his medical license suspended. The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine suspended Dr. Shaohua Tang’s license Thursday saying he poses an immediate and serious threat to public health and safety. Without going into detail the board says Tang provided substandard care for three patients.

The Berkshire Eagle reports documents show that in August Tang gave fentanyl to a patient he’d seen since 2009 who had been diagnosed as an addict a year earlier. The man died of a fentanyl overdose the next day.

Tang runs Integrative Medicine on Main Street in North Adams. A release from the board says Tang has a right to a hearing.
