The company proposing a 400-mile natural gas pipeline across the Northeast says alternative routes suggested by federal regulators are impractical and environmentally damaging.Responding to questions from FERC, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. says a route along part of the Massachusetts Turnpike would require more land for construction and negatively impact sensitive environmental sites. The current route goes through New York’s Capital Region, western Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. In December Allen Fore of parent company Kinder Morgan said the request is part of the review process.

“I think there were 20 data requests as part of this request from FERC,” Fore said. “We expect there will be many more. This is part of the interactive process that FERC has.”

FERC’s review is expected to continue through most of 2016.
