MASS MoCA and the city of North Adams are expecting what could be a record crowd for the annual Fresh Grass Festival this weekend. The Friday to Sunday bluegrass festival features Dwight Yoakam, heard here, and a variety of 50 acts, according to MASS MoCA director Joseph Thompson.

“The range is just fantastic from Houndmouth, which is really progressive interesting new music, to [The] Del McCoury [Band] to a little bit of a country twang with Dwight Yoakam,” Thompson said. “I think it’s fantastic.”

Performers will compete in band, duo, banjo and fiddle contests open to the public this year. Starting with 400 people in 2011, the festival grew to 5,000 last year complete with a camping site at Noel Field.
