The mayor of North Adams is challenging his neighbor to the south in Pittsfield in a fitness challenge. Mayor Richard Alcombright is inviting Mayor Dan Bianchi to North Adams Monday to present him with the challenge.North Adams mayor’s fitness challenge kicked off last year as part of the Mass in Motion program. Now the Northern Berkshire chapter has partnered with the Be Well Berkshires effort bringing together communities across the entire county. In that spirit, Amanda Chilson of Mass in Motion says people from each city will compete against each other in fitness and healthy eating activities.
“Sometimes when you new twists and unique opportunities for people it gets more people involved,” Chilson said. “So we were hoping by challenging Pittsfield it would get more people involved.”
Last year 400 people participated in the North Adams challenge. A kickoff event is set for 10 a.m. Monday at North Adams City Hall.
