Michael Conforti, the director of the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, plans to retire at the end of August. This past summer Conforti celebrated the unveiling of the museum’s $145 million expansion adding 98,000 square feet of building space to its 140-acre campus.
Conforti, 69, began as The Clark’s director in 1994 and has served as both a trustee and president of Association of Art Museum Directors.
Conforti spoke with WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Jim Levulis after announcing his plans to retire.
The Clark’s board plans to form a committee and bring on a firm to conduct an international firm to find his successor. Conforti says he plans to stay in the Berkshires and may pursue academic work.
