Tuesday’s elections expanded the Republican hold on the House and swung the Senate in the GOP’s favor. With a new Congressional playing field, Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal says those in Washington can learn from his state.Blumenthal joined fellow Democrats Wednesday afternoon in celebrating Governor Dannel Malloy’s slim victory over Republican Tom Foley. Blumenthal said the reelection should be a lesson for those in Washington that voters support those who deliver results, using Malloy’s ability to pass gun control legislation in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting as an example.

“Should show my colleagues that we need to reach across the aisle, seek bipartisanship [and] reach solutions that make sense in ordinary people’s lives,” said Blumenthal.

Blumenthal was not up for reelection this year. Democratic Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty defeated Republican Mark Greenberg in Connecticut’s 5th district.
