The State University of New York Board of Trustees voted unanimously Friday to appoint the next president of SUNY Purchase in Westchester County.
Dr. Milagros “Milly” Peña will become the sixth president of Purchase College. She’s currently dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at the University of California, Riverside, and a renowned sociologist. SUNY Chancellor Kristina Johnson says Peña has published five books, one of which won a Distinguished Book Award. She also was the first in her family not only to graduate from college, but to receive a high school diploma, having grown up in Manhattan as the daughter of Dominican immigrants. Dennis Craig has been serving as interim president since August 2019 after longtime President Thomas Schwarz retired.
