Mosquitoes In Westchester Test Positive For West Nile

Two batches of mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Westchester.

The batches are the season’s first positive ones in Westchester for this year, and were found in Yonkers. The county Health Department says that, to date, these two positive batches are out of 134 batches of mosquitoes collected in Westchester that were tested for West Nile Virus by the state Department of Health. As of July 20, the state Health Department had identified 69 positive mosquito batches across New York. Last year in Westchester, West Nile was identified in five local mosquito batches out of 380 submitted for testing and three people were diagnosed with the virus.
