New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Thursday announced $1.5 million to support the creation of “Community Schools” programs at three community colleges that are part of the SUNY system. One is in the Hudson Valley.

Rockland Community College, along with Jefferson and Mohawk Valley Community Colleges, will launch their programs this year. They were among 13 SUNY community colleges that submitted proposals. The new programs are expected to increase college access and support degree completion by providing wraparound services for students such as child and elder care, transportation, health care services, family and/or employment counseling, legal aid, and more. RCC President Cliff Wood says the grant will allow for working together with community resources like the United Way of Rockland & Westchester to help students succeed by helping their families. Each grant recipient will receive $500,000 over three years.
