Bill Keeler is scheduled to be sworn in as the mayor of Cohoes, New York on New Year’s Day. The former New York State Police major will take over a city hall that has seen plenty of change over the past year.

The Common Council removed Mayor Shawn Morse in August after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud. He’s scheduled to be sentenced January 7. Council President Christopher Briggs has served as acting mayor since.

WAMC's Jim Levulis spoke with Keeler, a Democrat, about what he is doing to prepare for the office.

Keeler’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. January 1 at Cohoes Music Hall.
