Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan says city hall was never notified about a house that was reportedly the site of numerous police calls leading up to a violent interaction with a city police officer in March.
Albany police officer Luke Deer was charged with physical assault for his actions while responding to a house party on First Street in March. Neighbors claimed police have answered multiple calls to that address. "The level of complaints from the neighbors regarding that house is stunning that city hall was never notified. We were unaware of that situation," said Mayor Sheehan, who adds there are civil means of dealing with the problem. She says code enforcement and the law department are "working on it."
"Nobody should have to live on a block where they are subject to disturbances, loud parties, late at night."
Sheehan advises citizens "call city hall" when there's a problem.
