The Ironman Lake Placid Competition will return in 2022 but its future beyond that is uncertain.

The Lake Placid based Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism has signed a one-year extension of its contract to host the Ironman Lake Placid Triathlon.

In a statement ROOST CEO Jim McKenna said all the towns the race impacts mutually agreed to the contract.  He acknowledged that there has been considerable feedback on issues such as the race course and its environmental and economic impacts.

McKenna said a task force will be formed to address the issues before a longer term contract is considered.  
The 2021 Ironman Lake Placid competition is Sunday.
