The mayor of Plattsburgh announced Friday that the gates to the city beach have been opened even though it isn’t officially open for the summer season.

City officials opened the gates to the Plattsburgh Municipal Beach Friday — earlier than planned — so that residents can “enjoy the fine summer weather in store for the North County.”

Mayor Chris Rosenquest warns for the first few weeks there will be no lifeguards on duty and “anyone who chooses to swim in the lake does so at their own risk.”  Signs are posted with that warning.

No admittance fees will be charged until the beach officially opens and lifeguards are available to supervise swimming areas in Lake Champlain.
