Emotions flared during a public hearing Thursday on a revised budget that Plattsburgh’s mayor is presenting to the city council.
Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read released a 2021 budget in June.  The Common Council subsequently requested he reduce it 10 percent.

Among those expressing concerns about potential cuts at a public hearing Thursday afternoon was 26-year police department veteran Nikki Schmidt.  “I am a dispatcher and all you keep saying is that you’re not cutting uniformed officers. I wear a uniform every day and yet my job means nothing.”

The Common Council has until January to finalize the budget. Read was defeated in the summer Democratic primary and is not seeking re-election.
