A hospital in Essex County, New York is suspending visitation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during a nearby outbreak of the virus.

In the past week and a half, officials say 31 employees and 33 residents of the Essex Center For Rehabilitation and Nursing in Elizabethtown have tested positive for COVID-19. Four residents have died.

In the wake of the outbreak, the Elizabethtown Community Hospital, part of the University of Vermont Health Network, announced Wednesday it is suspending visitation to prevent any potential spread of the virus to its facilities.

Hospital officials said the policy will be reassessed in the coming weeks to determine when limited visitation can resume.
