The primary ferry crossing on Lake Champlain between New York and Vermont is closed this afternoon.

According to Lake Champlain Transportation’s website the Grand Isle, Vermont – Plattsburgh, New York ferry crossing closed this morning due to strong south winds and ice.

Typically three ferries make the two mile crossing throughout the day.

The ferry company says it will provide an update at 3:30. In the meantime the southern crossing between Charlotte, Vermont and Essex, New York remains open. There are also bridges at the north and south ends of the 120 mile long lake.
