Suspended corrections officer Gene Palmer was arraigned in Clinton County Court Wednesday on charges related to his role in the escape of Richard Matt and David Sweat from the Clinton Correctional Facility last June.
Palmer is charged with two counts of promoting prison contraband. Prosecutors say he placed contraband inside frozen hamburger meat and provided needle nose pliers and screwdrivers to Matt and Sweat.
Palmer is also charged with two counts of tampering with physical evidence by burning and burying paintings obtained from the inmates.
He is also charged with one count of official misconduct. Defense Attorney William Dreyer entered the plea. “We would like to enter a plea of not guilty today and request a court conference before the court sets any deadlines for motions, etc.”
Palmer was released on $25,000 bail and faces another court appearance on January 8th.
