Speaking after returning from Washington D.C. Friday, retiring Democratic Congressman Bill Owens of Northern New York said leaving his job is ‘bittersweet’ but that he would also like to stay engaged in the North Country.

“I think that from my perspective, I believe that I will be able to contribute by continuing to help in the economic development arena in particular, and I think that that is something that the North Country cries out for, whether you’re talking about Saratoga or you’re talking about Lewis County, and everything in between.”

Owens is retiring after 5 years in Washington. Republican Congresswoman-elect Elise Stefanik will represent New York’s 21st District in the new year.
