A northern New York bus manufacturer has landed a contract to build 414 buses for New York City's Metropolitan Transit Authority.

The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports the MTA's contract with Nova Bus is worth $194.4 million.

The buses will be manufactured at the company's facility in the Town of Plattsburgh.

The contract is part of a 690-bus order, with the remaining vehicles to be built by Winnipeg, Manitoba-based New Flyer. The awards include an option for up to 700 additional buses.

The Transit Authority's board of directors approved the purchase at its meeting Wednesday morning.

Nova Bus, part of the Volvo Group, has just over 200 employees in Plattsburgh.
