U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is asking the Village of Hoosick Falls to pump the brakes on a revised settlement agreement with two companies deemed responsible for polluting local water supplies with the chemical PFOA.
In a letter to village mayor David Borge, Gillibrand said she has “very serious concerns that the terms stipulated in this proposal are not in the best interests of the residents of the Village of Hoosick Falls.”
The New York Democrat says the revised settlement agreement of $1.04 million with companies Honeywell and Saint-Gobain is inadequate in protecting public health.
Former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith Enck has also urged the village to reconsider.
Village trustees tabled an initial agreement in January. They are set to consider the new version on Monday after a meeting was postponed last week.
