Vermont’s Republican governor has appointed a former challenger to head the board that will work to bring universal broadband to all areas of Vermont.
Democrat Christine Hallquist challenged Republican Governor Phil Scott in 2018. Scott announced on Monday he is appointing her to lead the state’s new Community Broadband Board created by Act 71 to accelerate the build-out of broadband infrastructure.

Hallquist is an electrical engineer who most recently worked with two Communication Union Districts that are working to expand broadband.

The first board meeting is scheduled for early August.
