The City Council in Springfield, Massachusetts gave its unanimous approval this week to legislation that regulates short-term housing rentals like those offered through online booking agents.

In 2019, a state law took effect in Massachusetts that dealt with taxes and insurance requirements for short-term rental hosts.   The law let cities and towns put on additional regulations.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Springfield City Councilor Jesse Lederman, the lead sponsor of the local legislation.
