While it searches for a new police chief, North Adams, Massachusetts has designated the department’s official number two.

Jason Wood was formally sworn in as a permanent lieutenant of the North Adams Police Department February 26th.

“It was formalizing the role that he has held for a couple of years anyway," said Mayor Tom Bernard. "He had been serving in an acting lieutenant capacity.”

Chief Michael Cozzaglio officially retired in early February, but continues to run the department in what the mayor calls a “post-retirement role” while the city looks for his replacement.
