Stockbridge, Massachusetts residents are considering a temporary ban on retail marijuana shops.

Voters will decide on a temporary ban on marijuana-related businesses at a special town meeting January 22nd. The ban would last until the end of 2018.

Officials say it would give Stockbridge lawmakers more time to debate “complex legal, planning and public safety issues,” especially as the state waits for finalized regulations from the Cannabis Control Commission.

Retail pot was legalized via a statewide ballot question in November 2016. Last year, the state allowed municipalities to opt out.

A public hearing will be held Tuesday.
