Maine Senator Angus King says he's not interested in a potential request that he join the Democratic Party. The offer has also been extended to Vermont’s Independent Senator.
King is an independent who caucuses with the Democrats. A Democratic National Committee member is sponsoring a resolution calling for King and fellow independent Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont to join the party. It wasn't immediately known if Sanders responded.

King told CNN that he's staying independent. He was also an independent when he served as governor of Maine from 1995 to 2003 and he says "that's who I am." King was elected to the Senate in 2012.

King says he votes with the Democrats more often than the Republicans, but he feels more comfortable remaining unaffiliated.

Sanders also caucuses with the Democrats.
