In the absence of a complete spending plan, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy is calling on state lawmakers to pass what the Democrat is calling a mini-budget.
Malloy says the plan will not add to Connecticut’s deficit and is the best alternative short of a balanced two-year budget. The two-term governor, who is not running for reelection next year, spoke Monday afternoon.
“Other than the budget that have I proposed previously, there is no budget that I would sign,” Malloy said. “I would not sign the Republicans’ budget. I would veto it. I would not sign the Democrats’ budget as I understand its latest iteration to be. I would veto it. So this the question, ‘Do you want to be responsible and do you want to run government with the Legislature playing a role or not?’”
Governor Malloy says he will implement a separate resource allocation plan by executive order if the Legislature does not adopt a budget by July 1st. Malloy says he is prepared to allocate funding to operate state government until September 30.
