U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, is leading legislation to block immigration enforcement at sensitive, public places.

Blumenthal says the increased immigration enforcement at schools, courthouses, churches and hospitals creates fear. He says it also deters immigrants from receiving an education, reporting domestic abuse and other crimes, and seeking social services.

Under the bill, immigration enforcement would need prior approval and special circumstances to be at those sensitive, public places.

Blumenthal says law enforcement resources should be used on real threats.
