The Pittsfield City Council has tabled a resolution to oppose a statewide ballot initiative that would raise Massachusetts’ cap on charter schools.Councilors debated for about 20 minutes Tuesday on the resolution calling for a “No” vote on Question 2. People spoke for and against raising the charter school cap during the public comment period, but councilors decided to delay a vote with some arguing whether the council should even offer a position. Donna Todd Rivers is Ward 5’s councilor.

“This is not legislation,” Rivers said. “It’s a resolution. It’s an opinion. We are a legislative body.”

Council Vice President John Krol and councilors Pete White and Kathleen Amuso submitted the resolution. The council next meets October 25.
