Massachusetts Democrats will be picking a new leader this fall. State Sen. Thomas McGee says he will not seek re-election as chairman of the state's Democratic party after serving in the post for three years. In an email to members of the party's state committee, the Lynn Democrat says he will work over the next two months to help elect Hillary Clinton as president and "ensure Democratic victories down the ballot."

A successor to McGee, who backed Clinton in the primaries, will be chosen after the November election. Meanwhile, Democrats who supported Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the primaries could look to gain more influence within the party.

McGee is seeking re-election to an eighth term in the Senate.
