An author who detailed the story of a legitimate antique map dealer turned thief will discuss his book at Williams College today. Michael Blanding’s The Map Thief: The Gripping Story of an Esteemed Rare-Map Dealer Who Made Millions Stealing Priceless Maps tells the story of E. Forbes Smiley, who in 2006 was found guilty of stealing roughly 100 rare maps worth millions of dollars from libraries in New York, Boston, Chicago and at Harvard and Yale. Blanding, a 1995 Williams College graduate, spoke with WAMC about his book.  The event starts at 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
