Western Massachusetts State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier announced this morning that she will not run for the area’s state Senate seat being vacated by fellow Democrat Ben Downing.Farley-Bouvier instead is running for her third full term as the 3rd Berkshire representative. She says she took the decision to run for the Senate very seriously, but believes representing Pittsfield in the House is where she needs to be.

“State government happens right here in Pittsfield,” Farley-Bouvier said. “I want people to be really involved and know that they have good representation. I think I work on issues that are important to the people of the commonwealth and Berkshire County.”

Pittsfield City Councilor Christopher Connell is running against Farley-Bouvier. Democratic State Representative Smitty Pignatelli of Lenox said earlier this week he was seriously considering a run for Downing’s Senate seat.
