Man Charged With Setting Fires In Pittsfield Ordered Held For Four Months

The Hinsdale, Massachusetts man accused of setting a series of fires in Pittsfield last week is being held without bail.Judge William Rota ordered that Jeffery Benoit be held for four months without bail based on the serious nature of the charges against him, according toThe Berkshire Eagle.

It’s alleged the 26-year-old lit an apartment staircase on fire after he had been asked to leave a party inside.  After responding to the Perrine Avenue fire, firefighters found two trash cans, a pile of leaves and a car on fire within the Morningside neighborhood.

Benoit has pleaded not guilty to arson charges. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Dec. 29th
