A Pittsfield police officer fired for allegedly stealing more than $150,000 from the police union wants his job back.A lawyer for former officer Jeffrey Coco tells The Berkshire Eagle they will be following the appropriate channels to appeal his termination, but did not comment on the allegations.
Coco was fired on Monday after an internal affairs investigation and a local Civil Service hearing found he was "responsible for multiple misconduct charges."
Chief Michael Wynn said the investigation found that Coco had stolen union funds while serving as president of the department's International Brotherhood of Police Officers.
Coco has not been criminally charged. Police have only said that he took the money for "personal use."
Coco’s lawyer Lori Levinson also represents former Lee Police Chief Joseph Buffis who was accused of stealing money from a holiday toy fund. He was acquitted of 10 of 11 charges in June. He’s yet to be sentenced for an extortion conviction.
