Voters in Richmond, Massachusetts will decide tonight whether the town will borrow $1.5 million to buy and improve a former Girl Scouts camp. The town intends to turn the property into a public recreation area.Last month, the town of Richmond and the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts announced a $1.375 million purchase and sale agreement for Camp Marion White. The Swamp Road property includes 50 acres and more than 1,300 feet of shoreline on Richmond Pond, according to town administrator Matt Kerwood.
“The goal here is to open that property up for public access and use,” said Kerwood.
A two-thirds majority is needed to approve the borrowing, which would mean an initial average tax increase of $195. The town meetingat Richmond Consolidated School starts at 7:30 p.m.
