Pittsfield Police Find Handgun At Middle School

Pittsfield Police responded to Herberg Middle School today after a handgun was found in a student’s locker. The school resource officer secured the weapon and took the student into custody.According to Mayor Dan Bianchi’s office, a student told a teacher that another student had a gun in the school. School administration conducted a search with the resource officer which turned up an unloaded pistol in a locker. There was a loaded clip next to the gun. Resource Officer David Orsi secured the weapon and took the student, who has not been identified, into custody.

Pittsfield Public School families were notified. Herberg administration is working with police to investigate.

Some 620 students grades 6 through 8 attend Herberg, which is staffed by 54 teachers, according to the latest state report.
