Vermont Congressman Peter Welch announced Friday that he will run for re-election, rather than seek the state’s open governor’s seat in 2016.

On June 8th Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin announced he would not run for re-election.   On Friday Democratic at-large Congressman Peter Welch said he will not run for the open governor’s seat, and will rather seek reelection to the position he has held for nine years.  “I really continue to love my job. And I’ve had this opportunity to try to bring the practical problem-solving approach that Vermonters take to things to Washington.”

Welch said Shumlin’s early announcement accelerated his decision and will allow other candidates for governor to come forward.
