For most, warmer temperatures cannot come soon enough after a frigid winter. That’s even true for ski resorts.The winter has brought record snowfall and brutally cold temperatures. You might think that combination would be a boon for ski resorts. But in fact, Tyler Fairbank of The Fairbank Group, which operates Cranmore Mountain Resort, Bromley Mountain and Jiminy Peak, says business is down 5 to 10 percent across the Northeast.
“It’s actually not a very good ski season from a business perspective in that the cold weather of February really knocked down the crowds quite a bit,” said Fairbank.
Fairbank says storms around Christmas and Martin Luther King Jr. weekend also drove visitors away. He hopes the warmer temperatures bring more people to the slopes.
