A handful of people are completely a walk from Boston to Pittsfield Saturday attempting to raise awareness of children’s needs.

61-year-old Sue Crane and her husband Tim are among a group of three who left Boston May 1 for the 136 mile journey. Crane says about 50 people have joined periodically along the way as they traveled 15 miles a day sleeping in an RV driven by another supporter.

“Not everyone may be equipped to tutor algebra, but they may be willing to read to a child for a half an hour a week in either a school program or in an after-school program,” said Crane, a retired social worker.

The Walk for Massachusetts Children will finish at the Common in Pittsfield with a day’s worth of events to follow.
