Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin has appointed a new education secretary.
Rebecca Holcombe will replace Armando Vilaseca.
Holcombe is director of the teacher education program at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.
Governor Peter Shumlin announced the appointment on Thursday.
Vilaseca had said when he was hired as education commissioner more than four years ago that he wanted to spend about five years in state government.
