A student at the State University of New York at New Paltz died after accidentally falling from a cliff.

Kingston Police say the 20-year-old student fell while hiking in and around the caves along Hasbrouck Park. They say a group of SUNY New Paltz students set out around 6:30 Monday evening and got lost, winding up at the edge of the cliff where the student slipped and fell some 150 feet. With darkness and inclement weather, recovery of the body of Katherine Vollmer had to wait until morning. SUNY New Paltz President Donald Christian, in a letter to the campus community, says Vollmer was from Rochester, and a visual arts major who transferred to New Paltz from Monroe Community College this fall. He says the counseling center is available for students who need it.
