Two congressional representatives from New York introduced bipartisan legislation Thursday to rename a post office after former Congressman Maurice Hinchey, who died in November after a battle with a rare, neurological disease.
Republican John Faso and Democrat Louise Slaughter say the bill is to rename the post office at 111 Market Street in Saugerties, Hinchey’s hometown. Faso, who served with Hinchey, a Democrat, in the state Assembly, says renaming the post office will be an enduring recognition of Hinchey’s service to the people of Saugerties and Ulster County. Slaughter, who served with Hinchey four years in the Assembly and 20 in Congress, says she watched him do what he did best: defend the constituents and land he represented.
