Civil Rights Leader Is Bard Commencement Speaker

Georgia Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis will deliver the commencement address Saturday afternoon at Bard College.

Congressman Lewis also will receive an honorary doctorate of civil law during Bard College’s 157th commencement ceremony. Lewis is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Medal of Freedom.  Lewis was honored with an unprecedented John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for Lifetime Achievement for his courage, leadership and commitment to civil rights. Bard College is based in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in Dutchess County. Bard President Leon Botstein will confer 435 undergraduate degrees and 141 graduate degrees.
