Vassar College is embarking on a $1.6 million initiative to advance its mission as an inclusive and affirming learning community.

The four-year initiative entitled “Engaged Pluralism: Belonging and Thriving at Vassar College”  will begin in the fall under the direction of principal investigator Candice  Lowe-Swift, who is associate professor of anthropology at the Poughkeepsie-based college. She says the aim is to foster a living and learning community that is equitable, and that reflects and expresses the economic, racial/ethnic, sociocultural, religious, and intellectual diversity and capacity of the wider world. The program is supported in part by an $800,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
