Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, and there are more than 5,000 collection sites nationwide. As part of the effort, a New York state lawmaker in the Hudson Valley has issued a challenge.
Republican state Senator Terrence Murphy has challenged communities to collect 1,000 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription drugs. Six communities in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties - Yorktown, Mount Kisco, Croton-on-Hudson, Mahopac, Mount Pleasant and Pawling - have accepted the challenge. Anyone with unwanted or expired medications can bring them to designated locations where they will be disposed of safely by the police. The drug take-back day is organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and is aimed at addressing the opioid epidemic.
