Three New York federal lawmakers say an Orange County city will receive $500,000 to put four new cops on the beat.
The $500,000 is from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, and is headed to Middletown to hire four police officers. Specifically, the funding will be allocated through the COPS Hiring Program, which helps cities around the country put more cops on the beat. U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand along with Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney say the funding is critical, given tight city budgets, to help keep communities safe.
