Two New York congressmen are co-sponsors of a bill to fund mental health services in schools.

Republican Chris Gibson and Democrat Paul Tonko are the co-sponsors of California Democrat Grace Napolitano’s Mental Health in Schools Act, which she re-introduced March 3. The legislation, which she introduced in the previous four Congresses, would create $200 million in grant funding for 200 schools across the country to partner with local non-profit organizations to provide on-site mental health services for students. It is patterned after a pilot program that began in four schools in 2001 and has now expanded to 26 schools throughout Napolitano’s district.
