There’s a new program with the New York Rangers that will benefit two communities hit hard by Hurricane Sandy, one of which is in the Hudson Valley.
The new community-based program, which is called New York Rangers Assist, is set to help with restorations at both the Playland Ice Casino, in Rye, in Westchester County; and the City of Long Beach Arena, in Nassau County: two former Rangers practice sites heavily damaged in Hurricane Sandy. At the Playland Ice Casino, New York Rangers Assist will provide a new refrigeration system along with roof and structural repairs. Democratic Westchester Legislator Judy Myers, who represents the legislative district in which Playland is located, publicly thanked the ice-hockey team and banking giant Chase for forming the program designed to improve youth-hockey opportunities. She says they still have iron out details with insurance companies and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Playland Ice Casino is at Rye Playland, a county-owned amusement park currently considering four proposals for revitalization.
