New York Voters To Consider Three Ballot Measures Tuesday

WAMC

New Yorkers will have the chance to vote on three statewide ballot measures on Tuesday.

New York state law requires that the chance to hold a constitutional convention appears on the ballot at least once every two decades.

If voters approve Proposal 1 on Tuesday, a constitutional convention would begin in 2019. Advocates say it provides the chance to make much needed improvements, including ethics reforms.  Critics are wary of special interests influencing a constitutional convention and the potential removal of environmental protections.

Proposal 2 would allow judges to revoke state pensions from corrupt public officials.

Proposal 3 would create a 250-acre land bank to provide forest preserve land for local projects.
